Enzymes for Innovation Graduates: Driving Discovery Forward |
|
What is an Enzyme for Innovation (EFI)?
EFI is a NEB initiative that identifies enzymes with unique properties and specificities that are not commercially available elsewhere. These enzymes are shared with the scientific community to enable the discovery of new and innovative applications.
What is an EFI Graduate?
An EFI graduate is an enzyme that transitions from having unknown or exploratory applications to becoming the cornerstone of a defined application.
This month, we’re proud to highlight three new EFI graduates: |

TelN Protelomerase
Creates closed-ended DNA, facilitates hairpin DNA cleavage, and supports in vitro DNA template generation.
Now available in GMP-grade* formulation. |

Thermostable FEN1
Removes single-stranded 5′ DNA flaps, creating ligatable ends for DNA repair workflows. |
|
These enzymes demonstrate the impact of EFI in uncovering tools that can advance your research. |
|
* “GMP-grade” is a branding term NEB uses to describe products manufactured in compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality management system standards. However, at this time, NEB does not manufacture or sell products known as Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), nor does NEB manufacture its products in compliance with all of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice regulations.

At NEB, we are convinced that science should not impact the environment. That is why we make sure that all our print products are produced as sustainably as possible using recycled paper, environmentally friendly inks and bio-based PE foil. We compensate for CO2 emissions that we currently cannot avoid.
With the production of the 2025/26 catalog, we are supporting two projects for the protection of peatlands in Germany and the transition to clean energy by women in rural India.
